Tauranga fibre broadband network completed

Tuesday, 15 March 2016

The Tauranga Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) network was completed on Friday 12th March 2016.  A monumental day for New Zealand fibre broadband and Tauranga is now the fifteenth urban area where the rollout of ultrafast fibre broadband is complete.

Tauranga started rolling out ultra-fast broadband in August 2011 and the total investment in the fibre broadband network build exceeds $75 million so now that the network is all complete we are keen to introduce residents of Tauranga to the incredible benefits of ultrafast broadband with the best broadband packages for Tauranga which you can search on Broadband Compare.

The finished ultrafast broadband network was confirmed by Amy Adams, The Communications Minister.  In an announcement Minister Adams said that "all thirty-nine schools in Tauranga are now able to connect to Ultra Fast Broadband, and nearly all of them have taken up a service with the Network for Learning.  At the end of January 2016, almost a quarter of the 54,600 homes and businesses in Tauranga which could connect to UFB had done so - and that’s the third highest uptake in New Zealand."

The Communications Minister was not the only person happy that the Ultra Fast Broadband network was complete.  William Hamilton, Ultrafast Fibre CEO, said, “With nearly 55,000 end users now able to connect and high demand for UFB services, we look forward to seeing the truly innovative things that Tauranga does with access to the new technology."

Mayor Stuart Crosby said that he was delighted the Ultra Fast Broadband Network build in Tauranga was now totally complete and he was looking forward to the opportunities the technology will provide for Tauranga.  In a statement, Mayor Crosby said "Our Council wants to encourage the community to make the most of this new network and what it enables. Access to UFB is a significant step forward for Tauranga in its journey to becoming a world-class city."

With the Tauranga ultra fast broadband network now complete, that brings the country to around 60% of the nationwide network being built.  That means that more than 875,000 New Zealanders are now able to connect to the network and work is ongoing in the higher density areas of the country with Auckland, in particular, getting installation well under way.

Minister Adams says, “UFB offers the opportunity for New Zealanders to make the most of improving business productivity and connectivity, smarter ways to receive health care, and ensures our youngest New Zealanders are competing on the world stage while studying. Across the country, the rollout of UFB is making steady progress. Access to faster and more reliable broadband is vital in opening up opportunities for those living in Tauranga.”

Well here at Broadband Compare we are over the moon with the news - another city now complete with the ultrafast broadband network.  We look forward to watching Tauranga broadband uptake grow!
