Remote Work: Tips for Working from Home Productivity

Tips for Working from Home Productivity with NZ Compare
Friday, 16 February 2024

Since the dawn of the decade and the Covid19 pandemic, remote working has seeped into our lives, becoming more and more common for Aotearoa. Working from home comes with many benefits such as not having to commute, getting to wear sweatpants all day, and being able to make your lunch at home.

But sometimes working from home can be a little too comfortable, and we can easily get distracted! Optimising your work from home station is vital to helping boost productivity so you can keep on track, grow and thrive creatively, professionally and personally.

Here are our top 6 tips for boosting work from home productivity.

1. Choose the Right Broadband Plan

With all the providers and plans out there, it can feel overwhelming to find the right one for you. Brands are great at trying to entice you with offers and deals. But they might not work best for your unique interests and needs. With the introduction of 5G wireless broadband, we have more options than ever when it comes to staying connected. Broadband Compare helps empower you to make the most informed choice possible by showing you all the available broadband options side-by-side, so that you can compare each offering and their prices. Fibre is typically the best option for those working from home due to its super-fast speeds, low latency, and reliability.

2. Have the Right Equipment

Having the right tools and equipment is vital for being able to perform tasks efficiently. Using a smaller laptop can become tedious quickly. Consider investing in one or two larger monitors, a nice keyboard, and even an office chair that supports your spine and posture. You might even want to grab yourself a webcam for video meetings. If you focus better with music, grab yourself some quality noise cancelling headphones so that when there is construction going on in your neighbourhood, or kids jumping on the trampoline during the holidays, you can block out the world and zone in on your work. Use PriceMe to find the best price for all these useful tools!

3. Use a VPN

If you are working remotely, you may find yourself working in cafes and public libraries when you are feeling like a change of scenery. You’ll no doubt be wanting to connect to public wifi routers to avoid having to use all your mobile data. But did you know that public networks pose security risks? That’s right! Unfortunately, public wifi hotspots are rife with hackers and viruses that can steal your information and damage your device. Secure your privacy and protect your device so that you don’t need to worry!

4. Establish a Morning Routine

Create and stick to a morning routine that is reminiscent of your office morning routine. So, if you usually walk to work, take a quick walk around the block before you clock in. Or if you make a coffee in the office when you arrive, make one at home before you settle into the work from home day. This will help steer your brain into “work mode” so that you are ready to tackle the tasks of the day.

5. Stick to a Schedule

Start at the same time each day, and finish at the same time – generally. Always ensure that you are taking your breaks and stepping away from the computer to give your brain time to rest and reset so that you can continue the rest of the day performing to the best of your ability.

6. Unplug at the End of the Day

When you have clocked off, make sure you mentally clock off too. Go for a walk. Hit the gym. Cook a meal with music blasting. Cosy up and read a book, or stream your comfort tv show. Whatever helps you relax after work, do that.
